A local junior boxer will take part in a national championship tournament this week in Nevada. Justin "J-Rock" Krantz, fighting out of Marshall's D-Rocks Gym, will compete in the Junior Golden Gloves National Championship in Mesquite, Nev., taking place today through Sunday. The tournament will feature junior boxers between the ages of 9 and 16 competing for national titles in their respective weight classes and age divisions. In order to qualify for the national championship, a boxer must win his regional and state Golden Glove titles, and must have fought in at least five amateur boxing matches prior to the event.

Coach and father Doug Krantz said Justin has been training hard for this event. "(He) is running between two to three miles a day and (doing) four rounds of shadowboxing and jump rope," Doug said. Justin's training routine has also included three rounds of heavy bag work, punch mitts and sparring. Justin will be representing the state of Texas in the 95-pound, 13-14 year old division.

Anyone interested in sponsoring or donating to the youth boxing team may call 903-934-8265 or visit D-Rocks Gym at 313 Pope St. The group is hoping to take four to five boxers to compete in a Waco boxing tournament in August if it raises enough money.

Justin's last fight was a victory at the Rise of a Warrior junior mixed martial arts event in Shreveport, La., on June 26.
